Built in Porirua. Still Building

Pac began in Porirua in 2013 with CrossFit at the centre of the floor.

The roots still matter.

Coached functional movement. Broad fitness. Sessions that can challenge an experienced athlete and still make sense for someone starting from the beginning. A room where people train together without needing the same load, pace or version.

More than a decade later, the programme has grown beyond one class name. The standard underneath it has not.

THE FOUNDATION WAS CROSSFIT

CrossFit gave the early programme a clear idea: build a broad base rather than specialising too soon. Lift. Run. Row. Carry. Learn skills. Work across short and long efforts. Adjust the training to the person without removing its intent.

Pac remains a CrossFit affiliate. We do not need to place that fact above everything else, but we do not hide it either. The methodology shaped the way the gym understands coaching, variation and general physical preparedness.

The programme grew because the people in it needed more ways to train, not because those roots stopped being useful.

ONE CLASS BECAME A WIDER PROGRAMME

As the community developed, different goals needed more room.

Pac remained the broad strength and conditioning base.

Fortify gave pure strength a clearer place.

Engine created focused work for aerobic capacity, pace and conditioning.

Weightlifting gave the snatch and clean and jerk the technical time they require.

Team kept a weekly place for partner and group training.

HYROX added a known race format and a new reason to connect running with functional work. Bootcamp created a focused block for beginners and people returning to exercise. Personal training created space for goals that need more individual attention. Kids & Teens continued building strong foundations for the next generation.

The offer became wider. The aim became clearer.

DIFFERENT WAYS TO TRAIN. ONE STANDARD.

More classes can easily become more noise.

The job of a programme is to give each option a role. A member should be able to understand why Fortify differs from Engine, why Weightlifting deserves its own session and how a coach can help combine them across a week.

That clarity protects the training from becoming a menu of disconnected workouts.

The same is true of coaching. Pac’s coaches bring different backgrounds, experience and strengths to the floor. They develop together, stay aligned on the intent behind the programme and hold every session to one coaching standard.

WHAT HAS NOT CHANGED

The coach still leads the room.

Movement still matters before more load or pace.

The person in front of the coach still matters more than the version written on the board.

Progress is still built across weeks and months, not proved by one dramatic session.

And the gym is still in Porirua, shaped by the people who train here, coach here and keep returning to the floor.

THE NEXT VERSION SHOULD BE BETTER DEFINED

Growth is not adding more for the sake of appearing bigger.

It is creating a clearer path for the beginner, a better challenge for the experienced member and more useful options for people with specific goals. It is improving the coaching standard as the coaching team grows. It is keeping the programme connected while the timetable expands.

Pac has CrossFit roots. It also has more than a decade of evidence about what this community needs from a gym.

That is the story now: not a departure from where Pac began, but a programme that has learned how to carry the foundation further.
